Farming at Boycott Farm

Boycott Farm is a mixed farm, situated in the North Buckinghamshire countryside and has been farmed by the Hilsdon family for 4 generations. The farm is 185 acres and is a mix of grass, arable and woodland.

We have 6,000 free range chickens who roam over 15 acres of grassland and at peak produce 5,800 eggs a day!

We have 110 cattle and calves, which are bred by our Aberdeen Angus bull.

Our Chickens
We have been farming free range chickens for over 20 years. Our flock of 6,000 hens roam over a 15 acre field, live in a custom built hen house and are fed wheat and soya, which is produced at the local feed mill just 3 miles away. Our hens spend their days outside, scratching soil and dust bathing.

Our hens produce up to 5,700 eggs a day, which we sell through our farm shop and use in the farm kitchen as core ingredients to our shop produce. With our eggs laid just 40metres from the shop and kitchen, we are the definition of field to fork!

We are proud that our flock are fed on high quality food and combined with the freedom to explore, our eggs are some of the freshest, tastiest and best around!

Our eggs comply to UK egg regulation standards.
Our Cattle
Our herd of 40 Suckler cross bred cows spend their days grazing on lush grass at Boycott farm. With one Aberdeen Angus bull serving the herd, the cows calve mainly between early March and the end of June. These calves stay with their mothers and suckle from her until they are weaned in the following January. This keeps them very happy and once weaned they enjoy farm made silage and cattle nuts.

Aberdeen Angus cattle are prized for their excellent body condition which is well maintained on grass. They are slower growing than other breeds which improves the meat and guarantees excellent flavour. The meat is juicy, tender, succulent and well marbled.
Environment
We have great pleasure seeing the diverse wildlife which inhabit the farm. We encourage wildlife through our Countryside Stewardship Scheme – We put bird boxes in our trees to encourage birds of prey and have seen an increase in the number of birds on our land, particularly Barn Owls and Kestrels.

We love the sound of birdsong, with swallows and swifts in the farmyard, partridges nesting and rearing their young in the farm garden, and full circle of British wildlife.

We are conscious of our carbon footprint, and where possible we source our products as local to the farm as possible. We use green energy through our Solar panels which are located in the chicken field and the chickens enjoy sheltering under.
