When a cylinder head is bolted to an engine block, the clamping force slightly distorts the cylinder bores. Honing without simulating this stress can lead to imperfect bore geometry, resulting in less power and increased PCV pressure because the rings can’t properly seal an out-of-round bore. Some engines are more prone to distortion than others, but they all move to some extent. That’s where a torque plate comes in. By bolting it to the block during the machining and honing process, the cylinder walls are stressed exactly as they will be in the finished engine. This ensures a perfectly round and true bore, giving you maximum ring seal, better efficiency, and long-term durability under load. This plate fits all Subaru EZ36 Engine from Legacy, Outback and Tribeca model with a maximum bore of 93mm. Bigger/custom bore sizes are available from the drop-down menu, as well as options for larger head bolts/studs. They are CNC-machined from 2″-thick 6061-T6 aluminum. Stainless-steel inserts are included, so the plate can be used repeatedly without damaging the mounting holes. The inserts also give you close-to-stock cylinder-head height so you can use your existing head bolts or studs to torque the plate down. It is suitable for bores up to 93mm for anyone increasing displacement, but it can obviously be used on smaller bores as well.
